Portage Christian School was founded in 1979 as a ministry of the First Church of
the Nazarene. In 1986 it was incorporated as an independent, nondenominational
school. In 1989, 19 acres of land were purchased in order to build a permanent
facility. In 1990, PCS moved out of the Church of the Nazarene and into the
temporary facilities of First Assembly of God, Calvary Methodist and Portage
Christian Fellowship. In 1995, the move was made to the new 13,600 square
foot facility on a 14 acre campus. In 1997, the 1,680 square foot Preschool and
Kindergarten building was opened.
Our Administrator, teachers and staff are all born-again Christians with a
commitment to education that is comprehensive, creative and life-changing. The
faculty and staff are highly trained and motivated role models who impact our
students both inside and outside the classroom. The staff and teachers at Portage
Christian School are called, committed individuals. They are truly the "Living
Curriculum" who view their task with the students as a ministry.
Our program is more than academics, providing a well-rounded education designed to
meet the needs of each student in four life areas - spiritual, social,
academic and physical. Bible is taught at all grade levels along with a core
curriculum of reading, spelling, writing, science, physical education, English, math,
history and geography. Our course of study is continually reviewed and upgraded
with the goal of providing an affordable, quality Christian education.
